NHL Trade Rumors: Maple Leafs reject multiple trade offers

The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to be a team to watch on the NHL's trade market. General manager John Chayka has been busy since he took over revamping the roster, and there's certainly more moves to come for the Leafs. However, don't expect to see Easton Cowan traded, as the former first-round pick has moved up the lineup, taking over for Gavin McKenna on Toronto's second line, and despite tons of trade interest, the team won't be moving Cowan anytime soon. Elliotte Friedman: Re Easton Cowan/Maple Leafs: I hesitate to say that guys are off the market because I think we're learned that nothing is ever guaranteed, but they're not looking to do anything here, they're very happy with him - NHL Now (10/2) Cowan is off to a hot start under head coach Jim Hiller, who really loves the way the forward works his tail off, and is a puck hound for his linemates. Cowan's worked on his game a ton this past offseason, and is building off of his AHL Calder Cup with the Toronto Marlies. Cowan, 21, has this season and next left on his entry-level contract, making $900,000 average annual value. This season in four games, the London Knights product has posted one goal and two assists, for three points, seeing an average of 14:22 of ice-time per game. The Maple Leafs moved Matthew Knies, and when they did so, multiple teams reached out about Cowan's availability. For now, he stays, and all signs are pointing to Cowan being a major part of this team's core moving forward.

Red Wings Changing Trade Focus In Recent Talks

The Detroit Red Wings are starting to realize they're far from contending, and can shift their trade focus to future considerations. Speculation is brewing that the Red Wings front office has changed their tone of late, and is open to different trade packages for former captain Dylan Larkin, and restricted free-agent defenceman Simon Edvinsson. Sportnet's Frank Seravalli reports, the Red Wings are active in trade chatter, and could see some top prospects and draft picks coming back in return: They have been steadfast in their ask for Larkin, that they want young, NHL talent to remain competitive now. But something shifted in their conversations over the weekend with teams after Simon Edvinsson’s trade preference came to light via Elliotte Friedman on Rogers Saturday Night Hockey. Sources say teams were told that the Red Wings would still rather have NHL-ready talent for Edvinsson, of course, but are open to considering the right package for Edvinsson that is more futures-based with prospects and draft picks. As far as potential trade destinations go, the Larkin sweepstakes need to be wrapped up sooner than later, for all parties involved. There's been plenty of chatter about Larkin's list hitting 10 teams now, but there's also been reports that he'd considering just about anywhere besides Detroit. The Boston Bruins seem to be the favorites at this point, and could move Matthew Poitras in the deal. For Edvinsson, the Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs have keen interest, and talks have progressed in the past week or so. The skilled former first-round pick has returned to Sweden to train, and is fed up with the Red Wings' organization for their lack of contract discussions during the summer months.
