3 Potential Trade Destinations for Predators' Ryan O'Reilly
The Nashville Predators have a prime trade candidate in Ryan O'Reilly, as the veteran center is in the final season of his contract, and there's been no sign of management looking to extend him. O'Reilly's already having his name tossed around the league as a forward to watch on the trade market, after tons of speculation last season. Elliotte Friedman: Team after team tried to pry [Ryan O'Reilly] out of Nashville; He didn’t have written trade protection, but there was a verbal promise; if Nashville indicates it won’t extend, what will he choose to do?; The interest...remains high - Sportsnet (9/29) O'Reilly earns just $4.5 million against the cap and even though he doesn't have any trade protection, it's expected GM Chris MacFarland would do right by the player, and move him to a situation he, and his family could handle for the rest of this season. Here's three potential trade destinations for 'The Factor': Montreal Canadiens The Canadiens are looking for a second-line center, and even though O'Reilly's slowed down over the years, he still brings a ton of savvy, and veteran leadership, which is something Montreal could use more of. O'Reilly knows what it takes to win, he's willing to do whatever he can to help the team, and his strong two-way play would go a long way for the Habs. Montreal has a boatload of prospects that would get the Preds attention. Toronto Maple Leafs The Leafs will have interest, as they're a little thin down the middle of the ice, especially in the middle six. There's been lots of eyes on John Tavares' slow start, and Colton Sissons is ideally a fourth liner, so adding O'Reilly could help balance out the Leafs' lineup. The only issue here is team speed, and O'Reilly would certainly bring down the numbers, after John Chayka's been prioritizing skill, size, and speed with recent moves. We'll have to wait and see, but they'll be mutual interest for a reunion. Boston Bruins It feels like O'Reilly was made to be a Bruin. Boston has a need to add another center, and with the unknown future of Pavel Zacha, they could even add O'Reilly, and move off Zacha to completely reshape their forward group. If Boston winds up doing business with the Preds, look for Matthew Poitras to land in Nashville in this trade.
