Toronto Maple Leafs Involved In Ongoing Trade Talks

The Toronto Maple Leafs are far from a finished product. General manager John Chayka started just a few months ago and has already made a significant impact on the Maple Leafs' roster. From big trades, to free-agent signings, Chayka has put his fingerprints all over the roster. From the sounds of it, talks continue and more changes could be on the way. According to sources close to the Leafs' front office, Chayka remains active in trade talks as Toronto is currently over the salary cap. Chayka remains open to the possibility of moving defenceman Morgan Rielly, and also has Dakota Joshua and Steven Lorentz available on the trade market. Rielly is the biggest question mark heading into next season. The longest-tenured Maple Leaf owns a full no-movement clause, but did submit a list of four teams he'd be open to being dealt to earlier in the offseason. Rielly prefers playing within the western conference if a move from Toronto does present itself. The 32-year-old blueliner has four seasons left on his contract at $7.5 million AAV, and last season, Rielly went through one of his more frustrating years of his career. The Leafs defenceman was among the league's worst D-men defensively at even strength, and with Darren Raddysh and Emil Andrae on the Leafs now, Rielly won't be getting hardly any time on special teams. For $7.5 million, is it worth it? Keep an eye on Chayka and the Maple Leafs. If Rielly isn't dealt, don't be surprised to see one of Joshua or Lorentz moved before training camp opens next month.
