NHL Trade Rumors: Maple Leafs open to moving 2 players
Toronto Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka is no stranger to making trades, and he's managed to already put his fingerprints all over his roster in his first offseason. Word is, he's far from finished. Trade rumors continue to swirl in Toronto, as Chayka appears open to moving defenceman Philippe Myers and forward Dakota Joshua. Some feel that Myers has asked for a trade as he's quickly fallen down the depth chart and appears destined to spend all of next season with the AHL's Toronto Marlies. With Darren Raddysh on the right side, Emil Andrae able to play either, and prospect Ben Danford showing off all of his toolbox during the Marlies Calder Cup run, Myers is quickly becoming an after thought. The lanky blueliner has one year left on his deal at $850,000. Joshua, on the other hand, will be in a battle to secure a spot in the Maple Leafs bottom six, and with Toronto currently over the salary cap, and some uncertainty around Max Domi's status, Joshua continues to be the one forward who is linked to trade rumors. Joshua's owed $3.2 million AAV this season and next and also holds a 12-team no-trade clause. He had a tough first season in Toronto and despite being a physical force at times, his secondary scoring production was very inconsistent, and he had a hard time carving out a role for himself. With Chayka adding several forwards, specifically depth options, Joshua could be in tough to find regular playing time. Keep an eye on the Leafs, Chayka is going for it these next two seasons as he'll look to try and please Auston Matthews, who is eligible to sign a contract extension next July.
