Former Maple Leafs RFA Nick Robertson Signs New Deal

Nick Robertson never got a real shot with the Toronto Maple Leafs. At least, that was his belief, leading him to ask out last year. That request finally came to fruition on July 1, when the new Leafs regime traded the restricted free agent to his former general manager, Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He had filed for arbitration, but the Pens Robertson will avoid that by coming to an agreement today on a two-year deal. Nick Robertson and Pittsburgh have a settlement 2 x $3.25M for him — Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) July 14, 2026 Elliotte Friedman reports the contract comes with a $3.25 million AAV. Robertson played this past season in Toronto on a $1.85 million salary. He scored a career-high 16 goals with 32 points in 78 games, in only 12:40 average ice time per night. The soon-to-be 25-year-old has slowly increased his production each of the past three years, from 14 to 15 to 16 goals. But it's always been in limited ice time. He's still expected to start the season on the third line in Pittsburgh, but he'll get more of a run, and have a chance, for the first time, to really break out. Now, as Penguins fans might say, on to the next Robertson.
