Cole Knuble needed only two games to prove he belongs on the Flyers

It was 10,791 days between the two, but Cole Knuble’s first National Hockey League goal on Wednesday night completed a circle of sorts for himself and father (and former Flyer) Mike Knuble. The elder Knuble — watching his son score his first in the stands with family — scored his first NHL goal on April 5, 1997 at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Garden as a Detroit Red Wing. With just over five minutes left in the opening period, Cole Knuble drove to the net, found a loose puck from an Oliver Bonk s...

Sabres notes: Josh Norris scoring after slow start, showcasing grit

BUFFALO – Following a freak collision with Maple Leafs defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson in overtime last Thursday, Sabres center Josh Norris said he did not want to leave the game. But Norris, 27, had no choice. So as his teammates finished off their come-from-behind 5-4 victory in Toronto, he was in concussion protocol. “It was just a small thing,” Norris told the Times Herald prior to Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers in KeyBank Center. ... Report: 6 Teams Pursuing Alexander Nikishin Amid $63 Million Contract Demand

Six teams have inquired about Carolina Hurricanes restricted free agent defenseman Alexander Nikishin, according to David Pagnotta’s The Fourth Period , but Carolina hasn’t found a deal that works for it. The Fourth Period reports the St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Islanders, Nashville Predators, Philadelphia Flyers, and Seattle Kraken are “some of the clubs that have inquired,” so the list may not be complete. Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky continues to have trade discussions, and Nikishin remains without a contract for this season. What Nikishin Reportedly Wants Nikishin is 25, his two-year, $1.85 million entry-level contract expired this summer, and he’s believed to be looking for a long-term deal worth between $8 million and $9 million per season over seven years. That works out to between $56 million and $63 million in total, and other reports have put his ask in a similar range, with one report citing a rumored five-year deal at $9 million a year. Pagnotta said on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio earlier this month that the cap hit is a hurdle, noting that “for some teams, like St. Louis, for example, and Toronto, and a lot of others, they don’t have that readily available.” The Fourth Period about Nikishin: As trade talks continue, Nikishin is believed to be looking for a long-term contract worth between $8 million and $9 million per season over seven years. - 10/19 #CarolinaCulture #NHL https://t.co/dlj0gKz2E6 — R i N K Y (@RinkyReport) October 20, 2026 Nikishin had 11 goals and 22 assists in 81 games as a rookie, was named to the NHL’s all-rookie team, and played in 17 of Carolina’s 19 playoff games on the way to the Stanley Cup. The Hurricanes are 8-2-1 and have the most points in the league without him. Why A Trade Hasn’t Come Together Carolina tried to move Nikishin in a package to Winnipeg for Connor Hellebuyck, but he wasn’t interested in signing with the Jets, according to The Fourth Period. Elliotte Friedman said October 10 that he doesn’t see a trade on the horizon and floated the possibility of Nikishin returning to Carolina if the two sides can agree on a new contract. Jeremy Rutherford on the Nikishin trade rumors the #stlblues: ''I haven’t reported on the rumors, but I’ve written that acquiring Alexander Nikishin is a possibility that makes sense. In trades, the Blues have been known to stick to what they think is the right deal for them, and because nothing has materialized yet, that suggests they’re sticking to their plan.'' - 10/17 #NHL — R i N K Y (@RinkyReport) October 18, 2026 Daily Faceoff was told the situation has been “pretty much status quo” on the trade front, and Nikishin’s limited number of NHL games makes him ineligible to sign an offer sheet. The Fourth Period also reported October 17 that Toronto has held loose, exploratory talks about Nikishin and Detroit’s Simon Edvinsson. The Hurricanes have not yet found a deal that works for them, though.
