Maple Leafs Acquire Aatu Raty From Canucks In 3-Player Trade
Toronto Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka continues to overhaul his roster, as the Leafs announced on Thursday, they've acquired forward Aatu Raty from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forwards Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr. TRADE: We’ve acquired forward Aatu Räty from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forwards Brandon Buhr and Jacob Quillan — Toronto Maple Leafs (@MapleLeafs) October 15, 2026 Raty, was recently waived by the Canucks, and is a former second-round pick, who has one goal in four games this season. Raty will be in perfect position to fight for a depth role with the Maple Leafs, as they have some openings currently on their fourth-line. Raty has appeared in 118 career NHL games since being drafted in 2021, including a short-stint with the New York Islanders, before joining the Canucks back in 2023. Raty's best season came last season, when he dressed in a career high 66 games, and posted four goals, and 14 points. Raty's showed at the AHL level he's elite, using his speed, skill, and 6-foot-2 frame, but he hasn't been given a ton of minutes to showcase what he can do at the NHL level. Aatu Raty, acquired by TOR, is a depth centre. https://t.co/Gn4J98jKyf JFresh (@JFreshHockey) October 15, 2026 Quillan, 24, showed well for the Maple Leafs last season as a spot-fill fourth-line center, and had a huge part in the Toronto Marlies Calder Cup championship last season. Quillan has 24 games of NHL experience under his belt, including one goal and two assists. Buhr, 24, is from North Vancouver, and is heading home. Buhr's an undrafted forward, who has dressed in five games for the Marlies this season, chipping in with two assists. Buhr posted 36 points in 35 college games last season. 🚨 Trade To #Leafs Aatu Raty 23 y/o F, Yr 2/2 $850K - RFA To #Canucks Jacob Quillan 24 y/o F, Yr 1/1 $850K - UFA G6 Brandon Buhr 24 y/o F, Yr 1/1 $975K - RFA TOR adds $850K net cap hit. NY Rangers Scouting Buffalo Sabres Goaltending
The New York Rangers are doing their due diligence around the league, as general manager Chris Drury tries to find the best solution moving forward for his goaltending. Igor Shesterkin is out for the season and even though Dylan Garand has performed well in place of Shesterkin so far this season, Drury is expected to go out and acquire a experienced goaltender to tandem with Garand moving forward. Drury had a slew of scouts attend a recent Montreal Canadiens/Buffalo Sabres game, and many feel it has to do with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast about the goalie situation with #NYR : What Drury’s gonna do is, he’s gonna be like Santa Claus. He’s making a list, he’s checking it twice, he’s gonna figure out who looks good and who looks bad [...] (Scott Clemmensen, goalie scout). He was in Montreal-Buffalo, I assume to watch Luukkonen. - 10/15 #LetsGoBuffalo #NHL R i N K Y (@RinkyReport) October 15, 2026 There's been rumblings about a potential three-way trade between the Winnipeg Jets, Sabres and Rangers, that would include New York landing Luukkonen, while Connor Hellebuyck would get his wish out of Winnipeg, and join the Sabres. There's been a ton of speculation that UPL's no-trade clause is the reason why Hellebuyck hasn't already been dealt to Buffalo, as Winnipeg is on his no-fly list. For now, Drury has added to his AHL team's depth chart, while also scouting around the league to see what his best options are. They've kicked tires on Anthony Stolarz of the Toronto Maple Leafs as well, so it's obvious Drury is open to goaltenders with term left on their contracts. Shesterkin is signed long term, and injured backup Joonas Korpisalo is also under contract for one more season. Keep an eye on the Rangers, they'll be adding a goaltender to their NHL roster sometime soon.

Maple Leafs Announce Details On Chris Tanev Injury Status
The Toronto Maple Leafs have made an announcement on the latest on Chris Tanev's status. And it's not promising. He will be out "week to week" with an upper-body injury. Leafs announce Chris Tanev is now considered “week-to-week” with an upper-body injury @TSN_Sports — Mark Masters (@markhmasters) October 15, 2026 What makes this difficult to swallow, if you're the Leafs, is that Tanev received a mere "bump" in front of the net in the first period against the Colorado Avalanche, the type of play that could happen 100 times in an NHL game. If this is where we're at with Tanev, it's a troublesome situation for the Maple Leafs' blueline. Tanev missed all but 11 games last year after going down due to a combination of a concussion, a spine/core muscle injury requiring surgery, and a groin injury. And we all know what happened to the Leafs' defense last season. It was an abject disaster. Earlier Thursday morning, Elliotte Friedman reported that GM John Chayka wasn't thinking about doing anything drastic on that front as far as an acquisition, but preferring to see how the team weathers the storm on the blueline for the next week or so. But this news could bring about some more immediate action. For now, the Leafs seem to be going with an 11-forward, 7-defence alignment to help cover themselves on the back end in Tanev's absence. For now, Tanev has not been placed on LTIR.
