Top-3 Calgary Flames' Trade Candidates Entering 2026-27

Welcome back to another edition of Top-3 Trade Candidates, as we make way to western Canada to check in on the Calgary Flames. The Flames are going to be one of the worst teams in the NHL this season, as they continue to rebuild, and try to refresh their roster before opening up a new arena. General manager Craig Conroy will be active in the trade market this season, as contending teams will be looking to poach his pending free agents. There's also been some talk about a defenceman or two on opposing team's radars, so don't be surprised to see the Flames very active on the trade front this season. Here's the top-3 trade candidates in Calgary entering the 2026-27 season: Morgan Frost Frost, 27, is owed $4.3 million AAV this season and owns a eight-team no-trade list. There's been a ton of speculation that a handful of teams reached out throughout the summer, but Conroy wants to wait this out longer to see how much Frost can increase his value. Last season in 82 games, Frost was second on the team in scoring with 22 goals and 43 points. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens are two teams to keep an eye on here. Ryan Strome Strome is on of the elders on the Flames, and like Frost, is also a pending unrestricted free agent. The two-way center makes $5 million against the cap, and doesn't own any trade protection. Last season Strome averaged 15:15 of ice-time and battled through some injury troubles, only dressing in 19 games, but put up 12 points. The Edmonton Oilers like Strome, but we'll have to wait and see how his market develops. Zach Whitecloud Many people around the league are surprised the Flames didn't move Whitecloud at the draft, as there was a ton of interest. The rugged defenceman is slipping down the pecking order in Calgary, as the team acquired Simon Nemec, and inked him to a lucrative long-term extension. Whitecloud has two years left on his deal at $2.7 million, and is expected to be shipped out before March's trade deadline.
